How to Fix Nicknames and Match USA Water Polo Records

Why a nickname can show instead of the full name, and how to make the athlete profile match USA Water Polo.

The name on a box score or ranking comes from the roster on the 6-8 Game Desk. For a tagged player, the Game Desk fills in the name from the athlete profile, and the coach can't change it there. For a player who isn't tagged, it is the name the coach typed. A nickname in either place can show instead of the full name.

USA Water Polo records. 6-8 doesn't link to USA Water Polo records today. Names only line up when families and coaches spell them the same way, so check the spelling in both places.

Option 1: Fix the athlete profile. For parents and athletes.

  1. Open the 6-8 Mobile App and tap the athlete's name.
  2. Tap Edit in the upper right corner.
  3. Enter the athlete's full first and last name, spelled the same way as on their USA Water Polo membership. If that name differs from the legal name, fix it with USA Water Polo first, so all the names match.
  4. Check that the date of birth and gender are correct, then save.

Option 2: Fix the roster name. For coaches, for players who aren't tagged. In Team Profiles, open the team, tap the edit icon next to the player, type the full name in Edit Player and tap Done. Then tag the player's 6-8 ID so stats reach the right profile. A tagged player's name is greyed out in Edit Player; the family fixes it with Option 1.

Option 3: Games already finished. Submit a request with the athlete's 6-8 ID, the full name as on USA Water Polo, and the games that show the wrong name.

6-8 Tip: Age groups follow USA Water Polo rules and are based on date of birth. A wrong birth date puts the athlete in the wrong age group and ranking.
